Apply as Design Partner →Amazon Food Operations: A Different Beast
Selling food on Amazon requires managing two completely different fulfillment models simultaneously: FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) and FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant). Each has different inventory requirements, cost structures, and operational workflows.
FBA Inventory Planning
Amazon FBA requires you to ship inventory to Amazon's fulfillment centers weeks or months before you expect to sell it. This means you are carrying inventory in two places simultaneously, your 3PL and Amazon's warehouses. If your demand forecast is wrong, you will either stockout on Amazon (losing the Buy Box) or pay expensive long-term storage fees for excess inventory.
Lot Traceability for Amazon Recalls
Amazon has its own recall notification system, but it requires you to provide specific ASIN and lot code information. If you cannot identify which Amazon inventory corresponds to which production lot, you will be forced to remove all inventory from all Amazon fulfillment centers, an extremely expensive and disruptive process.
