Free CPG Planning Tool

Freight Cost per Unit Planner

Allocate one direct freight amount across the cases, units, and optional pallets in a shipment group you define. Use the result for internal cost planning—not as a carrier quote, invoice validation, or complete landed-cost result.

Allocate direct freight across one shipment group

Enter values from your own shipment record. Results update only in this browser.

Shipment inputs

Enter the direct transportation amount you are allocating to this shipment group. Exclude costs not included in this amount.
Enter cases in one homogeneous allocation group.
Enter sellable individual units in each case in that group.
Enter a pallet count only if you want a per-pallet planning view.

Planning results

Direct Freight per Unit

Direct freight divided by the individual units in your allocation group.

Direct Freight per Case

Direct freight divided by the cases you entered.

Direct Freight per Pallet

Shown only when you enter a positive pallet count.

Total Units in Allocation Group

Shipment cases multiplied by units per case.

Enter a positive direct freight amount, shipment cases, and units per case to create a planning allocation.

Planning allocation only. This planner divides the direct freight amount you enter across the allocation group you define. It does not validate invoices or carrier quotes, choose a multi-SKU allocation method, include other landed-cost components, or determine product pricing. Use your shipment records and internal cost policy for consequential decisions.

How the allocation works

The planner is designed for one homogeneous allocation group. It keeps direct transportation allocation separate from broader landed-cost modeling so the operator can see what this particular arithmetic includes.

Total units = shipment cases × units per case
Direct freight per unit = direct freight amount ÷ total units
Direct freight per case = direct freight amount ÷ shipment cases
Direct freight per pallet = direct freight amount ÷ shipment pallets (when entered)

If one freight bill covers multiple SKUs, choose and document a weight, volume, value, or other allocation basis first. This planner does not select that basis or allocate a multi-SKU invoice for you.

What to include—and what this does not include

Use it for

Allocating a direct freight charge you entered across comparable cases, units, and optionally pallets in one shipment group.

Use another method for

Duties, taxes, insurance, handling, storage, fuel surcharges not included in your entered amount, currency conversion, product cost, multi-SKU allocation, carrier pricing, or complete landed cost.

Common questions

Does this calculate landed cost?
No. It allocates only the direct freight amount you enter. Use a broader landed-cost model when other cost components are relevant.
Does it validate a carrier quote or freight invoice?
No. The planner does not access, verify, or compare external records, rates, or invoices.
What if I have several SKUs on one shipment?
Choose and document an allocation basis before using results for each group. This planner does not decide whether weight, volume, value, or another basis is appropriate.
