How to Use This Log

Lot traceability requires you to prove the chain of custody for every ingredient. If a supplier recalls a raw material, you must be able to identify exactly which finished goods contain that material and where they were shipped.

1. Receiving (One Step Back)

When raw materials arrive at your facility, record the supplier's lot code, the date received, and the quantity. Assign your own internal lot code if necessary. This proves where the material came from.

2. Production (Internal Traceability)

During manufacturing, record every raw material lot code used in the batch. Link these raw material lot codes to the new lot code you generate for the finished good. This is the critical link that spreadsheets often break.

3. Shipping (One Step Forward)

When shipping finished goods, record the lot code of the product and the specific customer/distributor it was sent to. This allows you to execute a targeted recall rather than pulling all products from shelves.
